10/18/2023 0 Comments Military tank museum![]() ![]() Didn't have much problem walking into my camera. A lengthy visit is recommended & take your time, much history is waiting to be viewed. Since all vehicles are inside no problem with weather. Some tanks-Patton-will be exhibited in different models or decades. Would say 50% of the vehicles had never encountered before. an military or history buff will enjoy a tour. Look for a 1950'60's armored personal carrier of Highway 29/Main Street. DON'T use Us 29, Danville, Va, I tried this address & ended out in the country on Us 29.The building is part red brick building & a faded green metal. If using a GPS unit, use one the two following addresses-3401 Us Highway 29, Danville or 3401 North Main Street, Danville, VA. If a visitor uses a flash, their camera will be taken & kept unit said person has left the museum. Visitors are allowed to photograph any exhibit, YET NO FLASH. Even with every item removed I still set off the detector, yet was allowed in. Before a visitor is allowed through admissions they must pass through a metal detector-all metal, cell phones & wallets must be removed. Small exhibit is the Holocaust victims & survivors. ![]() There is an International Hall of generals, however this room was chained off. Also in large glass cases are uniforms, hats/helmets. A separate exhibit is the rifle room with all kinds of military rifles from several nations. A visit is self-guided, no rushing from exhibit to exhibit. Vehicles are arranged either against a wall, end to end or side by side, each separate for a partial walk around. Besides the armored vehicles are artillery & howitzers which can be from the late 1800's, through WW 1 up to the 1950's. army with a few vehicles being British, Swedish, Canadian, Iragi/Russian. six ton light tank-a clone of a 1917 French tank-to the present U.S. A tour starts in #2 which I would say has the most vehicles, with #1 & #3 having a mix of different exhibits. All tanks, armored personal carriers or half-tracts are displayed in three adjoining buildings-#1 to the left, #2 middle & #3 right. ![]()
